Futurama is only two years away from its twentieth anniversary. That’s not bad for a show that’s been canceled twice, first by Fox and then by Comedy Central. But after four years, there’s finally some hope that the show could return again. Syfy has picked up the rights to broadcast all 140 episodes of Futurama.

And while there aren’t currently plans to produce a new season, this may be the best hope that the show has for another revival.was among the first to report that Syfy picked up the Futurama rights, under “a multi-year non-exclusive deal.” That means that Syfy won’t be the only outlet that can show the episodes, but this is still 'good news, everyone!' Remember the FXX stunt when the network showed every Simpsons episode in a row? Syfy may not be going that far, but there are apparently plans in place for Futurama to have a launch event on Saturday, November 11. From there, Futurama will air on Monday and Tuesday nights from 8:00pm to 2:00am EST, and on Saturday mornings from 8:00am to 11:00am EST.At that rate, Syfy will be showing 30 episodes of Futurama a week.

Factor in promos and other ads, and this will be the biggest push that Futurama has received since new episodes debuted on Comedy Central in 2010. And if we’re being honest, this is probably the best chance that we’ll see in a while to get more seasons. Comedy Central clearly had no plans to bring back the show after 2013, and a revival on Fox was an even bigger long shot.

If Futurama is going to live again, it’s going to happen on Syfy. And the only way that the network will order more episodes is if the ratings and the audience justify that response.Futurama has been facing an uphill battle since its debut in 1999. As Matt Groening’s biggest project since The Simpsons, Futurama had massive expectations even before it reached the air. Amazingly, it was almost everything that we could have hoped for and more. Futurama had the writing and wit of the early Simpsons seasons, with a great voice cast and memorable characters. Futurama even had its own subtle mythology behind its futuristic setting, which slowly played out over the course of the series. And more impressively, this was an animated show that could make its fans cry.

Just ask Futurama fans about Fry’s dog, or his brother.More recently, Futurama got a new mobile game Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, and the original voice cast reunited for a special podcast/radio episode on, which guest-starred Chris Hardwick and featured a script by series co-creator David X. Cohen, as well as original series writers Ken Keeler and Patric M. As fun as that was, it’s still not quite what we want.
